Tootsie is a Yorkshire terrier. She weighs less then 5 pounds. She's smaller
than most of the cats in my neighborhood. Her hair is black and tan and
brown. We have to keep her hair short because it will get matted. We got
her at the Humane Society about 2 years ago. She likes to play and take
rides in the car.

I wanted to learn more about Tootsie so I looked at my encyclopedia disk
on my computer. I learned that Tootsie has 42 teeth. The six pairs in front
are really sharp. She uses them to bite and tear.
Dogs can smell very well. They always sniff the ground, the air, and objects
to learn what is happening around them. Smell is Tootsie's best sense.
Tootsie uses her tongue to guide food down her throat, lick her coat clean
and for perspiration. When a dog is hot, it cools off by hanging its tongue
out and panting. Tootsie also uses her tongue to kiss me.
Tootsie's ears stick up most of the time, but when she sleeps they flop
down. Dogs can hear sounds at frequencies too high for people to hear. Tootsie
barks when she hears a siren or somebody knocks on our door because she
knows somebody is there.
I learned that Tootsie has 3 eyelids. She has 1 upper and 1 lower eyelid.
The third eyelid is hidden between the upper and lower eyelids. It keeps
the eye clean.
All dogs have 27 bones from the skull to the point where the tail begins.
There are 13 ribs that wrap around the heart and lungs to protect them.
I bet Tootsie's bone are very small.
Tootsie has four legs. She uses these legs for walking, scratching, and
digging. She has five toes on her paws which adds up to 20 toes. Each toe
has a claw or toenail. Dogs also sweat through their paws.
Small dogs live for about 15 years and big dogs live for about 10 years.
Since Tootsie is so small she will probably live for 15 years. I hope she
lives until I die.

I also looked up Yorkshire terrier on my encyclopedia disk and learned:
1. That these dogs weigh between 4 and 7 pounds.
2. Their hair will grow all the way to the ground if you let it.
3. People like to tie their bains up with bows or hair clips.
4. This breed came from Yorkshire, England.
5. This breed was developed in 1850.
6. They were bred for their fine, silky hair.
7. Scottish weavers would use their hair to make cloth.
I love Tootsie very much. She is the best dog I ever saw. I am very happy
that she sleeps with me at night and plays with me after school. She goes
with us on big trips and I like that.
