When and where were you born? March 31, 1932, Hynemansville, Pennsylvania.

How was your school different from our school now? How did you get to school? He went to a one room school with 8 grades and one teacher. He walked to school. His dad was his teacher from first grade until fifth grade.

What chores did you do when you were in second grade? Help feed the cows and chickens.

What kind of clothes did you wear? Did your mother make your clothes? Overalls and shorts. His mother made some of them. His mother made their sheets from white feed bags.

What did toys and foods cost when you were 7 or 8? A toy truck cost 25 cents. Bread was 15 cents.

Did you ever earn money when you were in second grade? He does not think so. At that time there was not much money.

Do you have a short story or anecdote that kids my age might enjoy? When his Grandma caught him in the cow's water trough, he got a spanking.

Do you have any photographs, mementos, or artifacts you would be willing for us to photograph or scan for this report? We especally would love your childhood pictures! He will look for some photographs.

What kind of food did you eat? How much of your food did you grow? Pennsylvania Dutch food. (rivel soup, Scrapple, and burnt flour soup.) He grow 80% of fruits and vegetables.

What did children do for fun when you were my age? What games did you play? They played hide and seek and tag.

What happened when you were naughty? He got a spanking because his dad was the teacher. He got spankings at school and at home.

What kind of house did you live in? Was it in a town or in the country? He lived in a wooden farm house. It was in the country.

What is the biggest change since you were a child? T.V. and cars and airplanes and grocery stores.
