Name: Sister Mary James. When and where were you born? In Tacoma, WA. in the year 1914.

How was your school different from our school now? How did you get to school? She walked to school. She went to a Catholic school. Boys and Girls didn't sit together. They also didn't eat lunch together.

What chores did you do when you were in second grade? She helped her Mom with cleaning washing dishes; and cooking.

What kind of clothes did you wear? Did your mother make your clothes? Her Mom bought her clothes. And she got clothes from her sister that didn't fit her anymore.

What did toys and foods cost when you were 7 or 8? Toys cost between 20 cents 25 cents. Milk cost a nickel for a quarter gallon.

Did you ever earn money when you were in second grade? How? She never got allowance. She also had never to earn money. When she needed something she asked for it.

Do you have a short story or anecdote that kids my age might enjoy? She went fishing with her brother, She had no luck catching a fish. She had an idea, and she put a licorice stick on the fishing pole, and she caught a big fish.

Do you have any photographs mementos, or artifact you would be willing for us to photographs or scan for this report? We especially would love your childhood pictures! No she does not have pictures, or momentos. She went to the convent at 18 years, and she still is in the convent.

What kind of food did you eat? How much of your food did you grow? She ate meat potatoes, vegetables and fruit. Her Mom and Dad didn't grow any food.

What did children do for fun when you were my age? What games did you play? Tell about your favorite toy. She played hopscotch, jumped rope, and played ball with friends, Her favorite toy was her brother's tricycle.

What happened when you were naughty? My Mom spanked my bottom. and she took away privileges.

What kind of house did you live in? Was it in town or in the country? She lived in the city, her house was by the mill where her dad worked; it was a wooden house.

What is the biggest change since you were a child? Her biggest change was going into the convent when she was 18.
