Naches Trail's History

This historical marker, about 1/4 mile west of 152nd (Military Rd.) and Pacific Avenue, is a monument to the original Naches Trail.

Naches Trail Elementary was named for the trail that led over the Cascade Range of mountains to the military fort at Steilacoom. The school mascot is the trailblazer, a symbol of the search for new ideas and knowledge.

After the Fire!

The school was built in 1979, and burned to the ground after an arson-caused fire in 1981. A primary wing, which was under construction, was not burned, and opened in the fall of 1981 with grades 1, 2 and 3. The main building was rebuilt and opened the following year.

A cabin much like this was on our school property 125 years ago.

This photograph is from the Washington Historical Society, which stated that it was the Mahon home, the site of the Naches Immigrant Train's last encampment in 1853. This home was on or near our present school property.
