A Panther's Life

By Helen B.

Panthers grow to about 2 meters (7 feet long). They weigh about 45-80 kilograms(or 100-175 pounds). Although panthers look all black they really have brown spots, they are just hard to see. Panthers are really Leopards, some live in forests they are darker then the ones that live in the open plains. Sometimes when panther babies are born they can look like a normal leopard.

Panthers can be found in the steamy jungles of Indonesia, the forest's of India, and the rugged hills of Turkey and Israel.

They eat cattle, sheep, monkeys, antelope, dogs, turtles,(believe it or not), birds and seldom attack humans. However, once they discover that people are easy victims they'll be more dangerous.

Panthers spend most of there time in trees. From the branches which they lie hidden, they jump on the animals that pass underneath. They may eat the animal on the spot or they can save the meat for later.

Panthers are solitary animals they do not live in groups like Lions and Hyena's do. Panthers are mammals because there babies are born alive.
