BALD EAGLES

by Jake M.

Bald eagles are found all over North America. Bald eagles usually make their nests in tall trees. They always stay close to water where they can hunt more easily.

The largest number of bald eagles make their nests in Alaska. Fish is the main part of a bald eagle's diet. Bald eagles can fish in oceans, lakes and streams.

Bald eagles like live fish but they will eat rabbits, rats, snakes and monkeys. They will also steal fish from other birds.

They have over 7,000 feathers on their bodies. The wingspread of a bald eagle is from 6 to 8 feet. They fly 36 to 44 miles per hour when they glide. They fly 100 miles per hour when they dive.

They are our national bird. It stands for strength and power.
