Room 18 kids invite you to see how they made traditional animal reports come alive--and even bark and roar-- with the help of technology.

Who does what....

 Students
Choose animal, search image database, search web for information, as well as use books, periodicals as sources. Original drawings of animals accompany the reports. Animal sounds could be recorded and digitized to use, as well. These 2nd graders use standard word-processing programs, such as MS Works or ClarisWorks. Many students choose to make dioramas as a supplementary activity. Peer evaluation.

Parents
Help child with research, typing, and spelling. When possible, reports are submitted on disk (PC or Mac)

 Teacher
Compiled image database of 450+ animals and 45+ habitats, teaches students how to use web-authoring program, scan pictures. Models and monitors peer evaluation. Assists students, parents as needed. Recruits teacher evaluators.

 Volunteers
Help students type reports with computers, scan and resize pictures.

 Technology
Our classroom has 6 Macintosh SE and Classic computers, (from a grant) and a Macintosh 5260. The school has a scanner, and a Quicktake digital camera was borrowed from the Bethel School District.
