I wanted to do my report on parrots because I think they're pretty. They have very colorful feathers. Wild parrots live in the jungle and most pet parrots live in cages in the United States.
Bird feathers get their colors from different things. Black, brown, and gray comes from the bird's blood. Red and yellow colors come from its fat. Green on the parrot comes from outside light shining on the edges of the feathers and breaking up the light to make colors.
There are many kinds of parrots. Some parakeets are about 4 inches long. Macaws can grow to be 3 feet long. Parrots eat all kinds of food. Pet parrots eat everything from sunflower seeds to dog food. Wild parrots eat berries, bugs, nuts, worms, and much more. Parrots also like to play with their food.
Parrots hatch from eggs but they don't make nests. They find holes in trees to make their homes. The mom sits on her eggs while the dad brings her food. Most mom and dad parrots stay together for life. They can live to be 30 to 50 years old!
Parrots have bright colors to help them hide from their enemies. The jungle has many colorful flowers and fruit which blend with the color of the parrot's feathers. Parrots can also copy what you say but they don't know what they are saying.
Parrots can help people by keeping them from being bored. Parrots are so beautiful that they make people happy when they see them.
